The World Cup of Meditation is the global standard for measurable, adversarial mindfulness. No incense. No gurus. Just telemetry, biofeedback, and extreme mental baseline control.

The Protocol

Traditional meditation is subjective. The WCM introduces strict bio-telemetry. Competitors are scored on Heart Rate Variability (HRV) stability, Galvanic Skin Response (GSR) baseline adherence, and EEG alpha/theta wave symmetry under induced stress.

Every match is a duel of autonomic nervous system control. The first to spike, loses. Competitors train for years to decouple their stress response from external stimuli, proving their mastery not through philosophy, but through hard data points displayed on a jumbotron.

Sanctioned Divisions

Division 01

Absolute Zero (No-Gi)

No sensory deprivation equipment allowed. Competitors face standard environmental noise (75dB) and visual distractor strobes.

View Meta →
Division 02

Heavyweight Zazen

Strict posture enforcement via motion-capture. A deviation of >2 degrees from the pelvic baseline results in immediate fault.

View Meta →
Division 03

Endurance Vipassana

24-hour elimination blocks. Lowest accumulated autonomic spikes advances. Requires rigorous medical clearance.

The Hardware Stack

Bring your own brain; we provide the sensors.

The ICMA mandates standardized telemetry for all sanctioned bouts. A 16-channel dry EEG monitors prefrontal coherence, while a clinical-grade ECG strap tracks HRV with sub-millisecond precision. Non-dominant hand GSR nodes monitor micro-sweat responses to internal thoughts or external loads.

MATCH ARCHIVE // FINALS 2023

Chen (CHN)
vs
Larsen (SWE)
Dur: 3h 41m Diff: 0.002 µS

The 0.002 Micro-Siemens Fault

The 2023 final remains the tightest margin in WCM history. At 3 hours and 41 minutes, a sudden 90dB stadium distractor triggered a micro-sweat response in Larsen's left index finger, causing a 0.002 µS GSR spike over the permitted threshold. Chen maintained absolute baseline flatline, securing the title.

Data-Driven Conditioning

Modern competitors rely on rigorous biofeedback loops rather than mystical intuition. Training camps utilize sensory deprivation chambers mixed with high-stress auditory injection protocols (AIP) to build neural resilience.

  • Heart Rate Variability (HRV): Maximizing parasympathetic tone.
  • GSR Flattening: Reducing electrodermal reactivity.
  • EEG Coherence: Sustaining alpha/theta ratios > 1.5.

Common Critical Faults

01. Saccadic Drift

Involuntary eye movement triggering >5µV occipital EEG interference. Immediate warning.

02. Tachycardic Spike

Heart rate exceeding +15% of recorded baseline for more than 3 consecutive seconds.

03. Postural Slump

Loss of spinal neutrality in Zazen division detected via pressure mats. Point deduction.

04. Electrodermal Leak

Micro-sweating on the non-dominant palm exceeding 0.05µS variance.

05. Acoustic Startle

Failure to suppress the autonomic blink reflex during a 110dB unexpected auditory test.

06. Apnea Exploitation

Holding breath intentionally to artificially drop heart rate below baseline. Disqualification.

WARNING: HIGH VAGAL TONE RISKS

Clinical Pre-Requisites

Competitive meditation at the international level induces extreme bradycardia (abnormally slow heart action) and potential hypotensive episodes. The WCM is not responsible for syncope (fainting) or cardiac anomalies resulting from improper biofeedback training.

All competitors must submit a comprehensive cardiology report and a 48-hour Holter monitor log prior to tournament registration.

Frequently Asked

Core rules for the uninitiated.

View Full FAQ
Can I close my eyes?
Yes, except in Division 01 (No-Gi), where visual distractor strobes require eyes open to measure blink suppression.
What happens if equipment fails?
If a sensor loses contact for >2 seconds, the match is paused. If determined to be competitor interference (e.g., sweating off the pad), it is an automatic loss.
Are beta-blockers allowed?
No. WADA anti-doping standards apply. Any pharmacological heart rate suppression results in a lifetime ICMA ban.
